Hi,

I have read the excellent report of Don W6JL "HOMEBREW QSK CW STATION AT W6JL USING PHASING RECEIVER WITH "TAYLOE" FRONT END
AND AA0ZZ Si570 VFO AS LOCAL OSCILLATOR."

Would anyone please point out the advantages/disadvantages of the R2Pro and phasing receiver ?
I know that Don have written the material about his R2 (R2Pro maybe?)
few years before and Craig's DDS vfo, but I don't see the comparison in the new material.
I suspect any of these rigs are great, but I would like to know what is the improvement of new version of phasing receiver.

The one I have found is NF of the receiver which is about 10 for R2Pro
(if I am not wrong) and 7 for phasing receiver. Both have - as Don wrote - the beautiful audio. Anything else? I am interested in rigs specification (numbers) - the degree of design complexity or necessity to match components (LC in R2Pro and RC for phasing) does not bother me much.

I cannot address your question, but will say that the W6JL paper posted on the aa0zz website is a very interesting read and has some nice measurement data, too. Looks like his setup has evolved over the years!
