Guys, Thanks for all the advice. I feel a bit more confident now, I knew about BODMAS (PODMAS in the USA), but I never really had to resort to it. Mind you its 40 years since I studied maths at Polytechnic as part of my science degree. In the UK it is interesting to see how much maths has been dumbed down over the years. Things I studied at 16 (complex numbers) seem not to be taught until university, according to my nephew's maths teacher.
