I am building the W7ZOI/K7TAU SA. I have the boards about 90% assembled and now need to decide on the IF frequency. I want to use 10.7 MHz since I can build an 8 stage narrow filter using the ECS 10.7-15A parts.
What is the best way to approach the 10.7 MHZ IF? Should I special order a 100.7 MHz 5th overtone crystal? Or should I order the 100 MHz crystal and just retune the 110 MHz bandpass filter?
What approaches have others used?

Hi Ray,

Just order the 100 MHz rock, which will be a standard, off-the-shelf thing. There is no reason to have anything that exact. The 110 filte will have to be retuned. Be sure to see the new design that is on my web site. The old filter is not recommended at all any more. The newer design falls together nicely.

If you get to the stage of building a tracking generator, the best way to go is the Simple Tracking Generator that K3NHI and K5IRK did. That's on my web site too.

Generally, communicate directly with me
