The cost of capacitors vary from a few cents to a few dollars often for
the same value.

Does anyone know of a good place, paper, etc that discuss why one
material should be used in a certain application over another?

Go to manufacturers' web sites and look at data sheets. You should
be able to find Z vs. f graphs. Start with ceramics. Then, look for
companies that make caps (ceramic & otherwise) specifically for RF
use. Compare.

Paul Harden, NA5N, has a good chart in the capacitor section of his FB publication, Data Book for Homebrewers and QRPers  If you can, grab a copy, it's a great reference..

I meant the rest of the data in the book, not just the cap chart...

Happy Christmas everyone. Paul is (as most folk know) a very generous person
and he allowed the GQRP club to make a downloadable datasheet from his book
material.

Go to www.gqrp.com and look for "sprat" in the menu and you will see the
link to the datasheets.
