A nice easy question. Does anyone know of a rough equivalent to the
1N4007 in a surface mount package? The device needs to handle 50V at
300mA.

Look at the Vishay S1 series. All are 1 Ampere, SMT
50 V breakdown is the S1A
100 V breakdown is the S1B
Direct SMT replacement for the 1N4007 is 1000V breakdown - S1M

S1A and S1B sell for US $0.17 each
S1M sell for US $0.22 each.
