Just to jump aboard John's point, I also built mine using "ugly" construction. If I were to do it again I'd use surface mount wherever possible and all SMA connectors.

Chuck,

I would be very interested in the unbuilt kit if not taken.

Try this, Chuck. Wayback Machine from 30 April 2008:

Spectrum Analyzer - $205 (set of 5 PC boards is $42 plus $3 S/H ($45 Total)).

The “new” version of the IF and Log amp as published in Experimental Methods in RF Design is available separately for those who want to upgrade their SA. It includes the PC board, board mounted parts including the IC’s, two pots, schematic, layout, and parts list. It does not include any feedthru capacitors. The price for the new SA IF/Log Amp is $50

Tracking Generator - $49 (PC board only - $15)
