It's been a long time since I've gone looking for PDF copies of the older Motorola application notes. They had been archived by On Semiconductor and Freescale Semiconductor for many years, but now I see that they are no longer available from either of those sites. Have they simply buried them? Are they available elsewhere? I would hate to think that we will be reinventing all sorts of wheels.

If you know the number of the app note or engineering bulletin, you may be able to track them down.  I've got archivals of a few of the RF power EBs / ANs, if that's what you're looking for.

I have the titles and AN numbers from their printed literature catalogues. And I have a printed copy of the one I'm presently interested in (AN421). I'd like to avoid the time and effort of scanning it.

An online search produces no results, and it appears that both ON and Freescale have scuttled the archives. The last link I have is:

http://www2.hibbertgroup.com/motorola/main?action=hibbertgroup.client.motorola.ui.inventory.InventorySearchController&page=/templates/inventory/inventory_search.jsp&component=inventory&operation=view&status=A

but even the root URL no longer exists.

I found AN421 at archive.org, but it seems their data base is somewhat out of order so if search through Google it will bring up an SCR note. But I then tried to search Brubaker and the title, and got the correct link.

BTW this IS a pretty poor scan though.

Chris,

What is the title of the AN note? I may have an electronic copy at home.

I was looking at my bookshelf. It's full of TI, National Semicondutor and Motorola catalogs. I was thinking od disposing them because I could get electronic copies of the spec sheets and app notes. I'll have to reconsider now...

No! Don't thrpw out anything! This stuff is gradually disappearing and people are eventually going to have to reinvent the wheel whether they want to or not.

Yes, I've seen that site before. It tends to be a bit haphazard.

From what I've seen over these past few days, almost the entire lot of Motorola Application Notes has been deleted from the internet, and current manufacturers such as Freescale and ON semiconductor have no interest in preserving their hostories. That's a tremendous loss to the profession and amateur radio alike. I'm going to look through my hard drives and see what I might have, and then through my filing cabinets to look for anything that is scanable. I know that I have a large number of these going back to Day #1.

I will take a very serious look at that later. It may turn out to be the missing treasure trove of documents that I thought were lost.

I've just been up and down on the Freescale website and I cannot find any tabs at all such as those. There is a "documentation" tab on the top page, but that just leads you to current documents with no mention of an archive. And there are no hits for such a page on any of the search engines. Could you provide the full URL for the "archived" page?

The internal architecture of the FSL web page does not allow for static provision of URLs to specific files.

Sorry about that.

That only takes you to the current application notes, not the archived older ones. Try finding something like AN-215.

Sorry, but there's no "Advanced Search" tab to be found. I did manage to hack my way through this and discovered that what they have done is change the way that each item is documented. You cannot search by way of ANxxx number, but instead have to search by way of the title. It's no wonder that the generic search engines cannot find any of these. The full URL for the RF application otes is:

>http://www.freescale.com/search?client=search_documents&site=fsl_en&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=search_style_fe&filter=0&getfields=*&rc=1&ie=UTF-8&ulang=en&access=p&sort=date:D:L:d1&entqr=3&entqrm=0&oe=UTF-8&ud=1&lang_cd=&ip=205.232.249.149&wc=200&wc_mc=1&q=+inmeta:Asset_Type%3DDocuments+inmeta:prodTypeCategory%3DRF+inmeta:type%3DApplication%2520Notes&dnavs=inmeta:Asset_Type%3DDocuments+inmeta:prodTypeCategory%3DRF+inmeta:type%3DApplication%2520Notes>

or, on the broader sense that includes all application notes:

<http://www.freescale.com/search?client=search_documents&site=fsl_en&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=search_style_fe&filter=0&getfields=*&rc=1&ie=UTF-8&ulang=en&access=p&sort=date:D:L:d1&entqr=3&entqrm=0&oe=UTF-8&ud=1&lang_cd=&ip=205.232.249.149&wc=200&wc_mc=1&q=+inmeta:Asset_Type%3DDocuments+inmeta:type%3DApplication%2520Notes&dnavs=inmeta:Asset_Type%3DDocuments+inmeta:type%3DApplication%2520Notes>

Now that I see how they have put a stranglehold on this so as to make it as difficult as possible, I'm just going to get out the old literature catalogues and download everything I can on the basis of the titles, then arrange them here on the basis of the ANxxx, EBxxx, etc. Anything that I cannot find this way I'll simply find a treeware copy and scan it on my own.

The Motorola app notes I have are on my web at:  http://www.w5dor.com/W5DOR-AppNotes.html

If you download the RF manual there are more RF related appnotes listed. However, be aware that downloading one of the manuals is a huge download and takes a while.

10160 2014-07-15 13:15:18 Steve VK2SJA Re: Motorola Application Notes
Hi Chris/All,

I've been looking at this one.

From what I can see the current Freescale documents are held at:-

http://www.freescale.com/files/...

The archived files appear to be at:-

http://cache.freescale.com/files/...

In the case of RF related documents they are held in a structure that
looks like:-

/files/rf_if/doc/app_note/

So the complete URL to the directory holding the archived RF App Notes is:-

http://cache.freescale.com/files/rf_if/doc/app_note/

The App Notes have a well defined naming standard:-

AN###.pdf or AN####.pdf

The following Google search will show them:-

site:http://cache.freescale.com inurl:/files/rf_if/doc/app_note/

Just copy all of the above line into the Google search bar. May not be all
documents available perhaps. As this would depend on when Google ran the
index pass. I've got 60 files listed.

Of course a simple Linux bash script of:-

for i in $(seq -w 000 999) ; do
wget http://cache.freescale.com/files/rf_if/doc/app_note/AN${i}.pdf
done

Would go and grab any and all App Notes from 000-999. There are only 9 of
them BTW. Changing 000 999 to 1000 9999 would eventually grab everything
available in the archived cache up to AN9999.pdf (remembering that there
are only 60 or so according to Google search).

But be aware that the Freescale web master *might* consider the script
behaviour above as being anti-social. If s/he was ever to look at the log
files that is ;-)
