I opted to head up toward McNeil point, West side of Mt. Hood. I found a spot off of the timberline trail to camp for the night.

Sunday morning I headed up to the point, as the weather was perfect and I was too close to not head up there!.

No matter the clouds....still a SPECTACULAR view!

That's more like it!

Amazing view of the ridgeline...

This was my view, about 10 feet away from where the tent was pitched.

You can see the 40m dipole, its center is immediately above the tent.

The complete station: FT-817 with Elecraft external tuner.

I had limited success. I was concerned the antenna was too low. The real culprit was my location, Mt. Hood was blocking about 80% of the country!

Sunday, June 29, 2025...

I packed up pretty quickly, re-filled my water bottles and headed up the hill....

The marked camp sight revealed, Sunday morning, after another night of snow-melt. The ground was way too wet to consider camping there (and I needed the trees for the antenna!)

Rainier, St. Helens and Adams were visible with no haze!

I'll get to cross this snow field. Look on the left side 2/3 of the way up, you can see the path.

McNeil Point Shelter near the bottom of this photo. A tarp helps with the roof.

The Texas-shaped patch on the right has a rut near the top you can see. That is the trail.
