I just heard on the net that W2NSD died a few days ago. His 73 magazine had a lot of interesting stuff. Not as good as QST or Ham Radio but nice and easy projects.

Yesterday I read an article in a computer e-zine I get at work with a tribute to him by one of the writers who started his career at one of Wayne's publications.  In the article he mentioned that way had put the 73 Magazine archives on the net.

Anyone run across them yet?

I've been going through them. Much of it is irrelevant to ham radio today, but it's still fun to read. Especially the ads. The first time I was ever published anywhere was the January 1967 issue (as K1DCK). It was a crystal calibrator using uL914s and uL923s.

I lived not too many miles from Peterboro, NH at the time and visited a few times a year. I was only about 25 at the time. He was an "old guy" in his 40s--my dad's age. But we had a common bond in RTTY, something I had recently spent 3 years teaching in the Army, and we had several interesting discussions.

A unique guy with a huge impact on ham radio and home computers.

RIP es 73, Wayne.
