Does anyone know if the AD DSP board in the book can transfer the sampled / processed signals to a PC over the RS-232 port? I am interested in development of an HF modem using DSP beyond what can be done in a PC.

Hello Rud,

Interesting question. The ADI EZ-Kit, used in the book, has RS-232 drivers
in hardware hooked to the DSP. Everything else in the way of a UART is in
software. That is, there are no fixed limits on serial data transmission.

Using the same hardware, Dwight Elvey wrote his EZFAST.COM loader program
that runs at 115K bits/sec.

The examples in EMRFD don't use a UART, but the DSP-10, shown in the book,
does. It runs at 9600, and shares the CODEC interrupt that sort of prevents
it from running faster.

Also, keep in mind that as a substitute for the EZ-Kit the DSPx from Lyle,
KK7P, is compatible with the EMRFD experiments (see his web page for
details) and this runs faster by 80 / 33. His KDSP10 adapter board includes
the RS232 hardware.

If you wanted to just use the board as a sampler, you might need speeds up
near 115K. However, I would really like to see someone put a good HF modem
into the DSP and take-out / put-in the data at the slower rate.

Let us know how you do with this if you proceed on this path.

Thanks, Bob.

I am aware of the KK7P boards and very likely would use it. I will be making
public any efforts.
