Gentlemen,

There is a difference between a patent and a copyright. US patented material may be used in the US as long as one does not attempt manufacture and sell an item. On the other hand, you are permitted to make one backup copy of copyrighted material and hold it in case the original material is destroyed.

If you buy a license from a patent owner there is no real difference to
copyright of music.

And at least, there is a world beyond the States. Surely!
