Returning the world of homebrewing, reading EMRFD and other pubs and I
see a huge variety of toroid cores in use. Now, I'm familiar with the
various types of magnetic cores, but there's also a dizzying variety
of sizes and shapes.

I'm wondering, if I wanted to put in a stock of cores that would be
generally applicable to the sorts of projects discussed on this group,
could someone list perhaps a dozen to two dozen cores (type and
dimensions) that I ought keep in stock? I'm not too interested in
EMI/RFI reduction, this has more to do with having the right things at
hand for RF filter inductors, matching transformers, mixer baluns,
etc. I've got plenty of high power stuff for my antenna work, it's
the low power end of things that's a new frontier.

Thanks muchly, FM

Although I have accumulated quite a few toroids, including a few kits from Amidon, I’m always looking to improve ye olde junque box, so send those suggestions in!

Frank,
I combed through EMRFD and made a list of the
balun/binocular (multi-aperture) ferrite cores for
experimenting with amplifiers, and also noted the
toroids I need for my existing projects based on the
book that I didn't have, such as the T30-6. I've
ordered several of Diz's bulk quantities before, and
the ones that he doesn't carry, I typically order from
cwsbytemark.com. On the big order for the EMRFD
stuff, they had all but one of the ferrite
multi-aperture cores listed.

If you'd like a list of what I ordered, contact me off
list, and I'll send you the info.

Ted,

I would appreciate a copy of your list also, if it’s not too much effort.

I ordered a pretty good variety of toroids (and transistors, and diodes, and….) from the EMRFD text, after following much the same procedure of combing the book and making lists, but I didn’t purchase all of the stuff on my list and now have misplaced the list I began with!

Thanks and very 73,
