I have been for a long time the advocate of the opposite, i have long
tried to promote the move away from 13v8 to 48v for amplifiers and
transmitters in general.
I would suggest a buck regulator to increase the voltage say from 5v
to 13v8 and avoid the low voltages.
Yes you can redesign for the low voltages in the matching networks but
then Vce sat in the output device will become a dominant factor, not
to mention the poor lineatity often associated with low voltages.
