What is the advantage of these pistons versus plain old air type trimmers?

PS I also realize there is now the SMT option but I already have the pistons (I think?)

I know there is a way to adjust these things but I am having a hard time figuring it out. I placed the stud end in a vice with the top hat on the open side. No matter what I do to the top hat I can't change the capacitance. I have tried pushing, pulling it with long nose pliers and even twisting it but nothing seems to want to budge. Any advice here?

11569 2015-08-30 14:30:53 David J Nushardt Re: Piston trimmer question I seem to recall Wes got the piston trimmer capacitors from Mouser,also recall they were rated at something like 1-11 pf cant recall where I seen this think it was in the bill of materials in the original QST article, can anyone confirm the part numbers and value, I re call Mouser had them in stock last I checked a couple years back.
